While I may be new to the world of
knitting, I definitely see how wonderful a center pull yarn ball would be. Skeins of
yarn as they come are good in theory but they invariably get tangled as you go and if you are mid-knit untangling gets hard.
You could always use the classic yarn ball that cats seem to love. Not that I would know since cats make me sneeze like nothing else. There are problems with that too. The whole unwinding from thea outside thing just is not as neat either and is prone to rolling away.
Enter Ariadne at
ariadneknits. She has a simple way to wind your own center pull ball of yarn using only your thumb. Yes, your thumb. Not only is this an awesome solution to your yarn conundrum, its also really cool looking.

I'm a 58-year-young grandfather. I've been crocheting afghans for years, and now with 3 grandchildren, I'm working on an afghan for each of them. I've been winding yarn balls for years, and I discovered the easy method of keeping the ball from rolling away. Put it in a plastic bowl!! It unwinds easily and stays put right next to me!
