As far back as I can remember there has always been a box of Cheerios in our house. Cheerios are not as glamorous as some of the more sugary cereals, but for better or worse they are a staple in many a household. However, I recently learned that Cheerios can be used for so
much more than just a cereal. From what I can tell, most of the uses stem from the fact that Cheerios are made from oats, and the oat is a highly diverse grain. Read on for some useful and entertaining uses of Cheerios.
- If you are suffering from a smarting sunburn, simply toss two cups of cereal in the blender and pour the mixture into a warm bath. Soak in the water and get some relief from the burn.
- If you are in need of a moisturizing facial, simply apply a combination of ground up cereal, lemon juice and honey to your face. Let the mixture soak into your skin and wash off. The Cheerios act as an exfoliant and will leave your skin feeling smooth and fresh.
- Skip the traditional Rice Krispie treats and try Cheerio treats instead. The fun O shapes are sure to be a hit
- I also had a friend in college who got super creative and used his hot glue gun to create some wicked cool Cheerio sculptures. The end product feature towering columns of cereal that while not at all edible due to the glue, they were very original.
Do you have any unusual uses for Cheerios? Or any other cereal for that matter. If so, please share them with us here at DIY Life.

Cheerios also make for a healthier crouton in my salad. And yes, I have been known to eat a salad for breakfast with a creamy style based dressing. That is what started them being used as croutons!! Cheers!

I make a good snack by: Mix 1 small jar low fat Peanut Butter, Add 2 Tbsp. Powdered Milk - flavored if desired- or 2 pkg. Splenda, or powdered Cocoa, Mix well. Add Raisins and/or Chocolate Chips, Mix well.
Add enough Multi-Grain Cherrios to Peanut Butter Mix to be Cherrios held together with Peanut Butter. Put in flat storage bowl. Chill. Cut into serving size squares and add one to child's school lunch, or for a mid morning/afternoon snack.

Since little boys are hard to toilet train and can get kind of messy just drop a Cheerio into the toilet and challenge them to hit it when they urinate..works everytime, they love it!
ps. be sure to tell them to flush afterwards....lol

I have a different use. They are great targets for potty training boys. LOL. Just float some in the toilet and let them take aim. They think it is a cool game while learning. ALWAYS have cherrios in the house, first finger food for all my kids too.

I have a friend who used cheerios to potty train her little boy....you put one in the toilet and tell the boy its a game to try to "sink" the cheerio!
It works!!! Her little boy would toss one in the toilet and try to sink it everytime he had to go and it worked so fast to get him potty trained, I have an 8 month old boy, and when its his time to use the toilet, I know I will try it with him.

We use Cheerios as a treat for our puppy. He loves them and right now we believe they are safe than buying dog treats.

My little dog, Molli, is a 5 year old Maltese who was trained on CHEERIOS and is still getting them for a snack every day! We only use the plain ones. They are so easy to take on our outings, as I put them in a baggy.
Also, having CHEERIOS in my pantry is a good thing for many of the above mentioned uses you read from in the other comments.

Like several other posts I used Cheerios to toilet train my son, now, 20 years later he can still hit the inside of the bowel every time, (his fiance sure appreciates it LOL)
The basis for the toilet targets that came out many years ago were almost certainly Cheerios.
I also love them with milk and sugar (unused of course)
Other uses include, pie crust, use in place of Rice Crispies in treats (I also add M&Ms or Reeses pieces to these), honey nut blend makes a great salad topper and can be used in any of the above uses).
Have fun with your food, experiment. Include your kids and grandchildren, good eating habbits start young.
