If it's not already obvious, I love
writing about repurposed materials. I'm always on the look out for new and interesting uses for objects that have otherwise met their manufactured obsolescence, which is why
this new Instructable really got me excited. There are a couple various 5.25 inch diskette projects floating around out there on the
internets, but their limited functionality made me hesitant to write about them. This project, however, is not only 100% functional, but it looks cool too... if you're into bags, that is.
Now, some of our younger readers might be thinking to themselves, "what in the heck is a 5.25 inch diskette?!" Allow me to explain: hundreds of years ago, our forefathers found themselves awash with text documents and BASIC programs, so they created an amazing device known as a floppy disk. First came the eight inch, followed by the five and a quarter, and finally the three and a half. The 5.25" diskettes were beautiful beasts that could store upwards of 1.2 MEGABYTES of information! Eventually, like the great plains buffalo, they were hunted to near extinction, but a few can still be found roaming the range in Wyoming and/or Vermont.
So, if you have about 20 diskettes sitting around, and a good stretch of canvas, give
this awesome Instructable a try.
