The over the door hanging
shoe organizer. An interesting device, but does anyone really use these things? I'm sure someone does or they wouldn't still be around. They are kind of cool with all their clear plastic pockets and out of the way over the door-ness. Hey! I like this thing but is there any other use for them?

Tipnut. I found two very interesting articles with creative and cleaver uses for this old and quirky device. The first ,and my personal favorite, of these ideas is to hang one from your
pantry door. This provides an out of the way and easy to find way it to store seasoning envelopes, jars and bottles of spices and any other small and easy to lose items. Since the organizer is clear you can see all your items quickly and easily. Being vinyl makes is very easy to clean as well.
The second idea is also cool. Hang one of the these over your
laundry room or
storage room door and fill the pockets with things that seem to have no home. Screws, tape, batteries, suction cups (doesn't everyone have a few of these and not know why?), picture hangers, detergent samples you never plan to use but can't throw out or anything else that clutters but can't be tossed.
I can also see this being used in your
linen closet or
bathroom for medicines, bandages, soaps and the like. You may not have that many bandages but I grew up with a skateboarding, bike riding, all around adventurous brother so we had a lot of bandaging products and the antiseptic type medicines that go with them.
And let us not forget the original purpose of organizing shoes. If you have a pile of them on your closet floor get yourself one of these and give your shoes the respect the deserve.
Do you have any other ideas for this handy dandy thing that is the shoe
organizer? If so let me know in the comments.

I have one hanging on the inside of my hall closet, just inside the front door of my condo. I have all kinds of things in the pockets - a pair of flip-flops for when I have to run out and get the mail, an umbrella, a few pairs of sunglasses, a couple small purses, gloves, scarves....it's an easy place to store things that usually get shoved to the back of a shelf, or wind up on the floor of that closet. It's a great place to stow stuff that also winds up as clutter on the coffee table, too.
ReplyI actually have one in the bathroom - it's a single-wide shoe canvas organizer that I sprayed with water protectant (I have no idea what kind, but it came with a pair of shoes my brother bought). This hangs on the shower curtain rod, and we roll up additional towels and place them in there since we don't really have a bathroom closet to store anything. It has worked great - if it does go a little mildewy, just soak in the old clorox 2/cascade mix and hang it back up.
ReplyI have one hanging on the inside of my office door. I have the stapler, envelopes, thank you notes, stamps, markers, ribbon, glue stick, stickers and all sorts of fun things in there. Very rarely does someone see the back side of my office door so its a great way to hide all of those little things that clutter up your desk.
