Each week, we'll show you how you can take a trendy decorating idea, garner inspiration from it and recreate a reasonable facsimile in your own home, easily and cheaply.
I know, here I go again, with my love / hate relationship with
Pottery Barn. They have such fun ideas, and I do find many of their products reasonably priced.
But 39.00 for a set of letter cards?
Framing letters is a very attractive idea, and as you can see from the
Pottery Barn photo of the letters spelling out "Boo," it will lend itself to infinite seasonal displays.
If you have a computer and printer, though, you can do this yourself and save 39.00 (plus shipping!).
First, head on down to
1001 Free Fonts and download some fonts that excite you. I used "
Michaelmas" and "
Presidente Tequila" for my display in the photo at the top of the post. Print out the letters you need on card stock, handmade paper, gift wrap, stationery, or whatever paper fits your seasonal theme.
How should you choose the size of the letters? Well, I used 180 and 200 and the smallest frame I used was 2x3 inches. You may have to play with it a bit because all of the fonts are different sizes, but it will take you no time at all.
For the background? I used a notecard I had that fit the black and white theme, but really, anything goes.
There you have it -- another free, easy project. Eat your heart out, Pottery Barn!
