If you've ever had a chest in the attic locked for years or even a locker at the gym, chances are you might have used a combination lock to keep prying eyes and thieves away. If it's a Master Lock brand item (most of them are), you can harmlessly crack it pretty easily.
Master Lock Combination Recovery: CRACK a Combination Lock
Here's step-by-step approach to Master Lock combination recovery. This little trick doesn't require any tools; not even a pen and paper. In four easy steps you can crack your Master Lock -- meaning you'll figure out your lost combination. You'll never have to cut off an old lock because you've forgotten the combination, just use this trick and you'll uncover those three secret numbers in about twelve seconds.
1. Push up on the clamp. Hold it in place. Spin right until you hear a click. 2. Move two numbers to the right. That's your first number. 3. Continue holding the clamp up. Spin left until it stops. That's your second number. 4. Spin right. It will be very choppy, but keep the clamp up. It will open on the third number.

I tried and tried and tried to open my lock, im not sure what brand it is, but its just a standard little silver lock. But its been used quite a few times and when I turn it, it makes clicking noises the whole way!
i tried this, & i got the 1st two numbers, yet when i try to get the third, the whole "choppy" thing doesnt happen, & every now & then while still rotating it, it clicks, but doesnt open. but to be for sure, is it Supposed to open before you make a whole turn? or will it jst "pop" open?
I had tried this technique on a master lock i had found some time ago. Like previous posters said, the level clicks up every few digits, and had to use pencil and paper to jot down the numbers, and tried every possible combination with them. After a month of trying, it finally opened.
I don't think that method works on all locks. If you think about it though, any lock is going to make a different noise when you pass the right number. So instead of clicks try just listening for a change in sound. That should tell you what the numbers are. If anything, a sledge hammer might work nicely.
