As far as video games go, I'm not a large gamer, but I do know a fine piece of 1980s video game nostalgia when I see it. The latest creation comes directly from the sleeper 1984 hit "The Last Starfighter." This sci-fi movie used some of the most cutting-edge computer graphics of the period (courtesy of Cray supercomputers) to give us a movie that contained graphics now outdone by a palm-sized Sony PSP.
But for 1984, it was killer. The movie is living on courtesy of a craftsman who made a replica of the actual arcade game used in the movie, which is shown to the right. If that screen doesn't bring back memories for you, then you must have been living under a rock in the 80s.
So, if you'd really like the lowdown on what this arcade replica is made of (literally),
check this out and definitely go for the
downloadable program that will give you the video game right on your Windows PC. Whoever studied the special edition DVD of this movie and painstakingly re-created the actual console is either mad or a genius -- or a little bit of both. Game on!
