HOT ON STYLELIST HOME:

Make your own bread, save your own money

One thing that gets my goat these days is the amount of chemicals and preservatives inside most of the modern food many of us eat. From milk to bread to crackers to cookies, the taste and shelf life are being enhanced by so many non-natural substances that it makes me wish we were all living in the 1800s so we'd have to prepare and eat our meals without that one-month shelf time of so many convenience foods we have at our disposal today.

Often, making your own food supplies much more nutrition than store-bought foods, but for many of us, making all our own food is highly impractical. But, some of the oft-eaten foods are really the easiest to make if you have a little pre-panning in mind.

Bread is something we eat almost daily, and if you could spend a smidgen of time to get rid of that high-fructose corn syrup and all those chemicals, would you not do it? Instead of settling for bread from the supermarket (which is not really bread), making your own in an oven pan or even in an automatic breadmaker is a treat. And, that kind of bread is so tasty it's unreal. Salivating yet? Get ready to get your hands dirty in the kitchen soon.
