Declutter your entire desk

Any modern computer desk (or just plain desk) is full of clutter these days. From papers to folders to pencils to cables, the modern office desk or even laptop desk is a mess of cables and cords. Not only does all that psychologically mess with your head (you're a mess if you're desk is a mess), all that needed nonsense can actually interfere with getting work done.

In an age when productivity counts, working smarter is the order of the day. Why not get rid of all that clutter and hide all those needed but unsightly gadgets and gizmos and get that desktop free for real work? The picture above has all those electronics (like routers, hubs and even a CD-ROM) mounted under a desk on a piece of medium-density fiberboard. Many of us know this from the garage pegboard version, which this example uses.

The only real "seen" item from this under-desk assortment is the front of the CD-ROM unit (for obvious reasons). Everything else is neatly tucked away. Out of sight really does mean out of mind, and if your workspace at home or at the office is anything like a electronic representation of spaghetti, hide it all and relax -- and be at peace with your desk.
