I am tired of paying my high monthly electric bill, especially in the winter time when I have to use my clothes dryer instead of being able to hang the clothes on the line to dry in the summer breeze. I keep trying little ways to lower my energy costs, and you can too.
Gomestic gives us eight ways to save money on our electric bill. Using simple strategies, such as turning the light off when we leave a room, hanging our clothes up to dry instead of using the clothes dryer in the winter time, unplugging any appliances when not in use, and switching to high efficiency light bulbs can reduce our electric bills to a manageable, payable amount. Simply getting our kids to turn off the television when they are using the computer can save some pennies on your dreaded bill.
If you are really desperate to reduce your electric bill and are tired of having to write an insanely high check each month, check out
Dan Chilton's post on how to cut your electric bill in half.

ReplyHey folks, in the winter, certain things really help. One is a southward facing window. It helps bring in more Sun but even without a south window, if you open your curtains when that sun begins to shine, it will add a few warmer degrees from your home and the Sun's heat is free. Plus, using a body lotion, yeah, a simple body lotion, will keep your warmer by adding a thin level of insulation. Intensive Care vasaline is usually best but try out your favs. Another cold weather hint is stay dry. The wetter you are, the colder you get, inside or out. Love all, stay warm
ReplyBuy a new front loaded washer that spin drys the cloth at 1200 RPM or higher to extract more water thus less energy will be needed to dry the cloth.
Replythose compact flourescent spiral light bulb claim to last seven years. Mine only lasted three years. Luckly, i saved the package, and the reciept and Home depot replaced it with a new bulb.
Replyelectric heater: turn down the thermostat heat so low that when you take a shower, only the hot water knob is used for a 100F. No need to use the cold water side to cool down the hot water.
Replyget one those new thicker insulation refrigerators with a star rating. The lastest ones are the bottom freezer that have the best rating to save energy. I have a old ice box that required scraping ice from the freezer. It stayed very cold, but never turned off. yes, it is hard to part with something that is still working. Now I have a star rated box and it is cold and it actually turns off.
Replythose large flat panel TV look great, but consume hundreds of watts of energy. a typical 42" could soak up 450 watts. Try leaving seven- 60 watt bulbs on. just remember to turn it off when done.
