Don't have anything lined up for Mother's Day yet? Feel bad 'cause your tight budget won't stretch to that mega-bunch of roses? Well, here's a suggestion: if your mom's into gardening, run out this weekend and pick up a yard-related gift. Wrap it up nice and pretty and give her that, alone, or pair it with a nice little box of chocolates or a few fresh flowers. She'll love it...and it won't break the bank!

Here are my top ten budget Mother's Day gift ideas for gardening moms. All of my suggestions are $20 or less--making them perfect for kids, grandkids, or big kids on a budget! Although it may be too late to have these items shipped, your local stores carry variations of nearly all of these items. Oh, and if you're open to slightly pricier ideas, check out last week's gift ideas post!

1. LL Bean Go-Anywhere Flexible Tote, $16.50
This soft, yet very sturdy, LLBean tote comes in a range of fabulous colors, including perfect-for-Mother's-Day bright pink. Also available in more practical hues, like dark green. Use it for anything outdoors-related: mix soil in it, haul tools or clippings in it, etc. This 11-gallon tote is built to last: it is UV-resistant and has reinforced handles.

2. TrenchFoot Shovel, Spade and Fork Attachment, $9.99
Ah, TrenchFoot--this cunning device clips onto your digging tool of choice and provides a step-like platform for your foot. This both protects your foot from strain caused by lots of digging, but also maximizes digging force. What a wonderful idea. Made of bright yellow plastic, it attaches easily to any digging implement with no tools required.

3. Seeds of Change Organic Seeds, $17
"Goodness from the ground up," says Seeds of Change of its all-organic products. They make a nice, thoughtful gift, too. Themed seed packs make particularly nice gifts. Like this Herbs de Provence with a Twist collection, consisting of organic sage, oregano, lavender, rosemary, thyme and chervil seeds.

4. Smith & Hawken: 100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden by Carolyn J. Male. $12.89
Affordable and practical, for sure. Yet 100 Heirloom Tomatoes is also a beautiful little coffee table book with sumptuous close-up pics. Translation: even if your mom never gets around to growing heirloom tomatoes, the book will still provide lots of enjoyment!

OR
Worms Eat My Garbage
by Mary Appelhof, $12.95
For real back-to-nature moms, this inexpensive little book explains how red wriggler worms can help you make the best compost ever, fast! Plus it has a cute title.

5. Turtle Stepping Stone, $17.50
A single stepping stone makes a great gift. This adorable turtle stepping stone is made of durable cast iron. Its faux rust finish gives it a pleasantly aged look. Size: 13.75 long x 10 inches wide. Frog and sunflower designs are also available.

OR
Himalayan Poppy Stepping Stone, $19 (reduced from $24)
I'm also loving this gorgeous Himalayan Poppy Stepping Stone on sale from Smith & Hawken. This terracotta stone features a luscious, shiny blue glaze, although it does look like it could be a little slippery underfoot, especially if placed in a damp spot. Sure is pretty though!

OR
Bloom Stepping Stone, $17.95
Finally, for moms who love vibrant colors, this 12-inch diameter bloom stepping stone comes in bright grass-green with blue flower. Precious!

6. Natural Radius Grip Ergonomic Garden Tools, $12.95
These NRG hand tools are ergonomically designed to minimize wear and tear on the body. They are also reasonably priced. Oh, and love the grippy, high-visibility handles in brightest popping green! Choose from the standard trowel, cultivator, weeder or bulb trowel.

7. Amazing "I Love You" Message Plant, $11.99
Open, water and place this potted plant in a sunny location. Then wait: its leaves will grow to reveal the message "I Love You." I have no idea if this plant actually does grow as claimed, but it's a darn cute idea for moms who like house plants!

8. Copper Garden Marker Gift Box, $12.50
Orion Garden Markers come in copper, terracotta, plastic and wood, and they are very reasonably priced. I really like their gift boxes, which are priced from only $12.50 to $13.85. The Copper Gift Box comes in a little box tied with raffia and includes three botanical copper markers, three ornamental hang tags, and six standard hang tags, as well as a nursery marker pen and a packet of flower seeds. A wonderful gift for a child to give.

9. Cynthia Rowley Hot Pink Garden Hose, $10
For only $10, mom can make a big splash with this fabulously-hued hot pink garden hose. From Target, it's part of the Cynthia Rowley line, "Whim." Not available in all stores...yet. Loving it anyway!

10. 1-PULL Gate Opener, $7.95
This easy to use 1-PULL gate latch is universally-sized. A clever design that enables gardeners with arms full of tools and clippings to open that pesky garden gate. Weather-resistant and made in the USA.

Hope these ideas gave you a little inspiration for last-minute shopping. If you are a mom, have a Happy Mother's Day this Sunday!

If MOM is not a gardner, about 100% cotton, applique'd dish towel ensemble in a natural fiber, hand-stitched, reusable pouch for less than $20.00?
