In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, QVC has issued a voluntary recall of about 82,000 Topsy-Turvy Deluxe Tomato Planters with Stand (item numbers M16702 and M17499), due to the fact that the legs on the bottom of the planter can detach when the planter is moved or becomes unbalanced, posing a hazard to bystanders if the planter collapses.QVC has received 347 reports of the planters collapsing. 155 consumers have reported injuries, including lacerations, broken toes and bruises. The firm has also received reports of property damage caused by the planter collapsing on nearby items.
They were manufactured in China and sold through QVC's televised shopping programs, its web site, and in QVC's Studio, employee and retail stores from March 2008 through April 2008 for about $30. The Topsy-Turvy planter is an upright planter used for growing tomatoes, peppers, or cucumbers. Please see the CPSC press release for more information on the recall.
Consumers are advised to take down the planter by having two adults tip it over on its side and return the planter to any QVC store for a full refund, if the consumer originally purchased the planter at a QVC store. Consumers who purchased the planter through QVC.com or a televised program were mailed instructions on obtaining a refund. Consumer who have not received instructions should contact QVC at (800) 367-9444 or visit the website at www.qvc.com.

Most of this "stuff" comes from China, yet people complain about WalMart. They make money off the shipping charges, even if you don't keep it, so they don't care wether you send it back or not! I feel sorry for the people that are "hooked" on these type of shows.

Diane...QVC doesn't make money on the shipping charges...because if you want to return the item...they send you a pre-paid return label just in case you don't like what you ordered.

Diane, QVC will send the prepaid label, but the amount is then deducted from your refund. You are really paying for the return shipping.

Buy American? How can you buy Amican products when you have the Chinese over here making the stuff. If China and other countries keeps buying American companies there won't be "Buy American". With the dollar as low as it is they are coming over here and buying up companies. Think about it.

We purchased the Topsy-Turvy planters but they are the ones you hang up yourself... we hung ours on a pipe...they work great, in fact, we have 2 tomatoes on one already.
These with the stand don't look very strong considering how much dirt goes into them.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT THEY ARE THE SAME EXACT THING IN MATERIAL THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS - TOPSY TURVY HAS ONE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM FOR THE PLANT AND THE ONES FROM QVC HAVE ONE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM FOR THE POLE AND 3 HOLES ON THE SIDES FOR THE PLANTS - SAME OPENING - SAME SPONGE TO HOLD THE PLANTS - SAME BLACK RING THAT THE SPONGE SITS IN. I saw those when they had them on and I could not figure out how something that fragile looking could hold tomato plants. Tomatpes plants have toppled my heavy steel tomatoe cages. I thought it was a bad product but apparently 82,000 didn't.
