That's funny. When I was an avid hiker we didn't forget the can opener-- we never thought to bring one in the first place! We would always use a knife to open the lid (and no, not a Swiss Army knife or Leatherman). A Ka-Bar does the job nicely.
ReplyAgree with the above, a non-locking folding knife will most likely open something up in a hurry, and it won't be the can in most cases!
