Ingredients for homemade laundry detergent. Photo: Flickr.com
Every book on green home cleaning probably features a recipe for homemade laundry detergent - but is it worth it? Anyone can easily buy a jumbo container of biodegradable detergent at their local Costco in the cheaper store brand.
There are two ways to look at the issue. On the one hand, making your own laundry detergent is one more way to free yourself from dependence on mass produced stuff and you are more self-reliant. You can also save some money. But, on the other hand, generic, biodegradable detergent is not all that expensive overall and it saves you time, comes in a convenient container and is just easier.
It's one of those decisions that doesn't have an answer that is right for everyone.
