ribboned, chair

You've ribboned cake stands. You've ribboned memo boards. But have you ever ribboned a chair? Diana Durkes has, and today, she's sharing her secret with us!

Diana removed the upholstery from an old junkyard chair's seat and back, tracing a template for outer ribbon upholstery. She pinned different colors and sizes of ribbons in overlapping lengths on top of her cotton template and zigzagged them into place with her sewing machine.

After her template was sewn and the ribbons were in place, Diana used a staple gun to attached the cotton template onto the seat cushion and send the chair to her upholsterer for a double row of black cording and final touches.

Quite the budget makeover, as the chairs in our photo are $2,300 each! Diana's version? Around $150. The result is a gorgeous ribboned chair that could brighten up any room --- no stripes about it!
