Close up of stranded knitting from the front
This is what will be seen on the exterior of an item. (This garment is in the Norwegian style of stranded color-work, which has some different motifs and traditional use of colors, compared to the Fair Isle style.) These are called "birds eye" stitches and are used to make decorative dots on a mostly solid-colored area (also doubling that area's thickness of yarn, making the garment warmer).http://www.flickr.com/photos/lollyknit/822174880/
