Before I started cleaning the deck ...
And, while the rain barrel was on the ground ...
Prep for staining.
First, to the matter of the carpenter bees.
I used a brush on the entire job.
The obvious result of two years of neglect.
The before ...
And the after ...
Protection from the new coating.
I took care to stain the underside of the new post caps.
I applied caulking to the top of the old post cap.
And, of course, to the bottom of the new post cap.
The end result.
Finito!
