Hot Stat: Today's Homes Burn Faster Than Ever
Nov 9th 2011 7:23PM I have often commented on the debate between fire retardants safety and fire prevention - I recall reading how many children used to die from clothing being ignited, usually during cold weather - by wall furnaces or fireplaces -
Do we have safer fire retardants available? I also find myself thinking that kitchens should have automatic fire suppression systems - how many fires are cooking fires?
BofA Threatens Family With Foreclosure Over $1 'Coding Error'
Nov 5th 2011 6:34PM How did I know this would be B of A doing this even before I read their name? It seems like only B of A would be this stupid! Time for everyone to let B of A know that we will drop our accounts with them if they do not reverse this insane decision - immediately!
Portable Air Conditioners -- Put the Cold Where You Want It
Jun 4th 2011 6:22PM These have a reputation for being notoriously inefficient - very expensive to run. How do these portable units now compare to energy-star rated regular window a/c's?
Source: Charlie Sheen 'Destroyed' by Ashton News
May 17th 2011 6:31AM The show is really unimportant - though I have always loved it. The most important thing is that Charlie needs to go away and get well - I don't want to watch the "train wreck" as Charlie destroys himself and ends up dead, maybe taking some other innocent people with him.
Get well Charlie - their is much more to life than booze and drugs -
Dumb Career Move of the Week: TSA Workers Steal Cash From Passengers
Feb 17th 2011 2:24AM It has been pretty well proven that the TSA approach is not one that really improves security for any of us. I hope the scumbags that steal people's money and belongings all get caught - and get the book thrown at them! This is a slap in the face to every honest worker, who doesn't steal money!
ESL Lightbulbs - DIY Product Review
Jan 29th 2011 3:56AM To me, this is exciting! Most of my home is lit by florescent, which does well in most of my uses. I have an LED bulb or so in a lamp or so, and for some things they are great. However, I am against outlawing regular incandescents - though I am anxious to try these new bulbs, and see what they develop into.
I do however feel that consumers should have the final say. If grandpa wants a particular light bulb to read his book by, he should have the right to have it. If he says a particular bulb is best for him, why should the government be allowed to over-rule him?
Octogenarians Fined $12,000 Over Cat
Jan 8th 2011 7:09AM I am on the board of an HOA - and I am very ashamed of Vista Pines. I hope these people contact the AHRC - which deals with the common abuses of HOA "power". The main reason I ran for the board I am on is to keep some of the power hungry nutcases off the board. What harm was this person's cat doing?
I would have fought that the HOA has no obligation to remove a cat that is being a comfort to someone who is very elderly and has real serious problems. It has been shown that a pet can be so vital in someone's recovery - and if it gives her great joy - how dare the HOA board act like a bunch of gestapo seargents!
Video: Creative carpentry - tree branch used as spare tire
Dec 31st 2010 2:49AM So to do this is not moronic? I see major injuries possible if this slips, or catches fire - and not
necessarily to the guy who is using the pre-flintstone approach. Can you really securely say that this wood branch is not going to snap and go through someones windshield?
And for the record - did he make it home safely? Has anyone verified this?
Video: Creative carpentry - tree branch used as spare tire
Dec 29th 2010 11:47PM I wonder if this moron ever got home? To the people that think its a great idea - the potential for disaster and loss of human life is too great to risk such a stupid stunt. I would like to know the outcome of this - did the limb eventually catch on fire?
Phosphate-Free Detergents Mean More Dirty Dishes
Dec 25th 2010 6:20PM I have tried to use "greener" products for years. What I have been using is 7th Generation powdered auto dish detergent, Lemishine (a great "green" booster" that has removed stuff off my copper-bottom pans and other stuff) and ecover rinse aid.
I have noticed I have to use the dishwasher on potscrubber at times, and the glassware is not always sparkling clean - I use more LemiShine at times, fill the main compartment with Lemishine, perhaps a bit on the dishwasher floor - and fill the open compartment with the powdered auto dish detergent.
