Mar 30th 2012 12:30AM This is pure bigotry and that is all that it is. There is no place for this in America!
Mar 6th 2012 1:08AM After reading some of the comments I found that the same malady which strikes many other commenters has occurred - the old "didn't really read the article" problem. Yes, they do have future plans for the Kangaroo beside their backyard.
many HOAs and Civic Associations are good things. I was on the board of the one for my subdivision and it was not a restrictive group at all. I wish it were a bit more restrictive, actually. We didn't have any power. Fortunately, there are local ordinances that keep people from having any junk cars or other unsightly things like that around their homes and we have regular limb and brush pick-up from the county. There is one house, not on my street, thank goodness, where the owners put up signs saying it was a bird sanctuary and used that as an excuse to let the yard go completely wild for over 20 years. You cannot even see the house anymore! I would recommend reading the HOA rules before writing a place off. Some are not that restrictive, like ours.
Feb 18th 2012 2:53AM How low can you go? I hope her other son gets an attorney for her and fights this. It sounds like she has been managing just fine with the help she has. Anyone who would put their own mother out like this should forfeit every last cent made on this house!
Jan 2nd 2012 2:59AM Now I know why the grandson was saying it was his fault when the people showed up to throw the elderly women out. The people from the bank actually showed up one morning with a moving company van to throw the 103 year old woman and her 84 year old daughter out! They did not know it was going to happen! The daughter was so upset she started having breathing problems and they had to take her to the hospital. If neighbors had not called one of the local TV news crews they would have proceeded with the eviction even though the 103 year old was in a hospital bed. They had lived in the house over 50 years so I don't know how the grandson got hold of the mortgage, the jerk!
Banks seem to want to foreclose, even over little errors. My daughter and her husband still own their first house, which they are leasing. For 2 months they paid the mortgage and all of a sudden they got a letter saying the house was going to be foreclosed on. Then they found out that their payments had been sent back to the bank. Their mortgage payments had gone up $10 a month and somehow the letter to them got lost. Instead of taking the regular payment and billing them for the $10 the bank sent it back to their account and said they had not paid their mortgage in 2 months. How hard would it have been to call them up and straighten it out? Of course they did get it straightened out but they freaked out when they got that foreclosure notice!
The only reason these elderly ladies were not thrown out on the street is that the news stations started broadcasting about it and the bad publicity scared the bank into stopping the eviction.
Jan 1st 2012 12:20AM If you have tried all the acne treatments and nothing has worked you may not have acne. I had been on antibiotics for almost 2 years for a serious infection in my jawbone. I had some really awful treatments and surgery. A month or so after I was off the antibiotics I started having acne breakouts that were horrible! I tried everything with no results. I finally went to the dermatologist and she took one look and told me I had a yeast infection! The antibiotics had killed off more than bacteria and my skin was all out of balance. She prescribed an anti-fungal skin wash that was pretty expensive, but it worked great! A year later it started all over again after I had only a 2 week round of antibiotics for a sinus infection. this time I bought some Monistat yeast infection cream and used that with good results. If you are not getting any response with your acne treatment you may need to visit your dermatologist or try a yeast infection treatment.
Aug 17th 2011 12:59AM Hairspray or WD-40 will usually get Sharpie off boards. For fabric I ordered a special cleaner on the Sharpie website to get it off. It is Amodex ink and stain remover. You can get it at fabric stores.
Aug 17th 2011 12:56AM That is so cool! Watercolor is such an unforgiving medium it is great to have a do-over!
Jul 27th 2011 12:53AM Well obviously that bleach solution would not work for any of the umbrellas shown above the story! They are all colored fabric and would be ruined. **From the Editor: A non-chlorine bleach can be used on colored umbrella fabrics. We've had success testing color-safe bleach product (Clorox 2) on colored umbrella fabrics. Hope this helps!
Jul 22nd 2011 11:23PM As a teacher I had accrued almost the maximum number of sick days possible because I was almost never out of school. Most teachers will come to work unless they are practically dead because writing lesson plans for someone else to do your job is a nightmare and then your sub is more than likely to not even follow them. That means a day of learning can be entirely wasted and with high-stakes testing pressure looming larger every year teachers just can't afford it. One year, however, I became seriously ill in May, toward the end of the year and after testing. I was out of school almost the whole month with 3 weeks of that being in the hospital. I was certainly glad I had those days saved up and was not a person who had to use her sick days more frequently, such as a mom with small children who get sick a lot.
I do appreciate that most people do not have sick days, but since teachers only get paid for the 190 days we work, each day would be such a huge hit on our salary we would have to be wheeled in on a gurney to teach if we did not have paid sick days. Many people think we have all these paid free days but it is not true. We just have our salaries spread over the entire year so we can budget better. Any day there is no school we are not getting paid for it.
Jul 16th 2011 2:53AM So many families who have children in the entertainment business have not done well by the children and have used up their money. I hope this is not the case here. Only the family really knows the truth, so it is not for us to judge who is right and who is wrong since we do not have any of the details.
