Jul 4th 2011 7:02PM My neighbor just put out a mixture of peanut butter and jelly. She does this to kill black ants and I was amazed that hundreds of ants were dead within a short time. She usually puts the mixture on some leaves and lays them around, but this time she put it on a white paper plate so I could see the ants. Amazing! We live north of Houston, TX.
May 19th 2011 10:11PM Gold digger!!!
Get pregnant by a rich man and you will be set for life!
Any OLD American man will do for so many of these 'illegals' and descendants of illegals... they look for OLD men who will die, leave them life insurance and they will get a 'check' the rest of their lives. I know specifically of several cases of these women... some are from Thialand. What is wrong with these stupid men!? Do they really believe that these women love them!? You know the saying, "There's no fool like an old fool!"
Nov 13th 2010 9:39AM I am a retired teacher. The government does NOT give me a pension! I worked for 36 years and paid very high payments into the Texas Teachers Retirement system, therefore, I get a check from what I EARNED and invested in.
Furthermore, the government TOOK AWAY my rights to draw Soc. Sec. benefits from my deceased husband. Every other person in any occupation can draw on their deceased spouse's Soc. Sec. but NOT teachers!

Sep 28th 2010 3:44PM I SMELL MONEY HONEY!!!
HE HAS IT, THEY WANT IT!
Aug 22nd 2010 9:47AM PAT - you said ..They can not be controlled because you can't punish a child for ignorant parents. You can't starve a child because the parent sells the stamps.
Our hope is not to PUNISH a child for ignorant parents, our hope is to FEED the child all month long with HEALTHY foods. When the parent is allowed to squandor the stamps on expensive foods and junk foods, that is when the child is truly punished and starved!
I agree with the people who say change the whole system to a WIC style service where so much is for milk, so much for vegetables, etc. Then, see how many drug dealers will want the stamps?!
Aug 22nd 2010 9:22AM TASTE for food is ACQUIRED!
We learn to like foods that we eat....ask any trained nutritionist! Think about it, why do people like me from the South love sweet potato pie, chicken and dumplings, cornbread, black-eyed peas and collard greens? Because that is what I grew up eating! Mom would back small sweet potatoes before she went to work in the glove factory in the mornings -when they were in season - and we would have those for snack after school.
Now, people from other parts of the country may not care for collard greens, etc. My point is, we can't say the kids will only eat junk. If we serve them good food, they will learn to enjoy and 'crave' it. WE are at fault for taking our kids to fast food places as a great 'treat' and teaching them that this is the really good stuff! WE must teach them that really good stuff is cooked at home and WE must plan ahead and have food cooked or cooking when the family comes in (get out the crock pot and learn to use it....leave dinner cooking in the morning and it will be ready when you get off work - easy!).
Aug 22nd 2010 8:46AM I definitely understand your plight!
GREAT News is that each county in the USA has an office for the county Extension Agent. There services are FREE! This is a government agency which trains homemakers, nutrition aides, 4-H Clubs, Homemaker clubs, etc. They will help you and teach you how to do home gardening....now, don't say you don't have space because gardening can be done in flower pots, and other containers even if you are in an apartmant you can do patio gardens or indoor gardens. So many things can be grown with little effort - tomatoes, peppers, onions, etc.
If you have flower beds or space outside, you can grow an endless number of vegetables. Go for it! You can do it!!
Aug 22nd 2010 8:28AM BRING BACK COMMODITY FOODS!!! The abuse of the food stamp program is rampant as we all know. I personally have had to get assistance in the past. I was shocked to see how others abused the program. Over a period of many years, I have witnessed people buying expensive cuts of meat, shrimp, etc. which the average household could not afford and neither can the food stamp recipient...the difference is that all those I know of abusing the system always had 'other' sources of income that they did not report, therefore, they do not 'really' need them.
I think that the Food Stamp program should not allow items that are not nutritious to be paid for with the stamps. Too many people are too lazy to cook for their families.
All items mentioned by others such as candy, chocolate chip cookies, etc. can be made by using simple ingredients and making them. Then, more nutritious items - like oatmeal raisin cookies, no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies, peanut butter fudge candy, etc. - can be made for the family. Not only are they more nutritious, they are free of preservatives!!!
The food stamp program could offer easy to make recipes! LIMIT the allowable cost of meat to $3.00 per pound - that is my personal limit and throughout the month I am able to find all varieties of meat at this price! Yes! Education is needed to teach people how to shop and feed their families well.
Please FEED OUR CHILDREN WELL - not preservative loaded junk!
