"The USDA predicts food costs could rise 2% to 3% this year, after several years of stagnant pricing. "
Where do the USDA employees live???? Food is up at least 15% in the last year where I am.
Feb 23rd 2011 1:56PM If we go electric to avoid being held hostage by oil, guess what - our new master will be lithium. Lithium for the batteries is a rare element found found in only a few places on earth. South America and , you guessed it, CHINA. This looks to me like a "out of the frying pan and into the fire" decision.

Feb 21st 2010 7:48AM The author is a racist in reverse. This is the mindset the fuels division. No matter how the puppets talk, it would be a potential problem. Not everyone speaks perfect English. I don't know anyone of any color who does. In this mindset; If they spoke with a Brooklyn accent, it would be depicting them as ghetto, deep south - stupid, ebonics - gang, Hispanic - illegals. If there were no black puppets but the athletes it would be segregation or making fun of them. People are different and this commercial actually shows people getting along. It is a commercial using puppets, quit trying to read your own agenda into it and lighten up. By the same token, if a KFC commercial has African Americans in it, it is not stereotyping, it is marketing to someone other than whites. If all the people in the commercial are white, then people like you again cry "racist". The accusation of "RACIST" is to the 21st century what the cry of "COMMEY" was in the 50's. Don't agree with someone's views, feel like noone is paying attention to you, cry racist. Get over yourself, this crap is getting old. Maybe white people should start complaing about the Lucky Charms Leprecaun, Keebler Elves, Jorry Green Giant, Howdy Doody, etc. They are "making fun" of whites.
Feb 4th 2010 5:11PM Deport her; the law applies the same to everyone, no matter who you are related to. Here illegally sucking the system; white, black, brown or green makes no difference. Go home and do it the legal way like all my ancestors did. Then when you are here legally, learn the language and contribute to society or go back whwre you came from.
Feb 4th 2010 2:26PM I am so tired of people playing the race card. Racism accusations are to the 2000's what the cry of communism was in the 1950's. Disagree with someone or their views, shout racism. Think someone is getting a bigger piece of the pie than you are, shout racism. It's nothing more now what is was then, a witch hunt. Senator McCarthy would be proud.
Jan 14th 2010 8:36AM There should also be a show following people who got 'Extreme Home Makeovers" showing how many of them lose the house within a year. This is also taxable income and property taxes skyrocket. Even if they pay off your mortgage, the property taxes suddenly become more than the mortgage was. Plus, what are the income taxes on a $250,000 "free home". It seems like a noble idea but in most cases puts the family in worse financial shape than they were to begin with.
Jan 12th 2010 10:12AM To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..'
Jan 5th 2010 8:31AM I would like to see more of the promised transparency. The disfunction within our government is not a Democrat vs. Republican problem; but is indeed an "us vs. them". The concerns and welfare of the people vs. the personal gain of politicians. The entire system is broken. Our elected "representatives" no longer represent us, the vast majority are in it to further themselves financially and socially. Bribes, conflicts of interest, tax evasion, favors for lobbyists, jobs for cronies, pork hidden in bills and the buying and selling of votes is the normal running of govt.
We reward these people with approx. $200 a day in spending money on and above their salaries, free transportation, free cars, free lodging in hotels all at our expense. I see potential buget cuts there. Plus, if they serve only one term or 20, when done they draw salary and benefits for life with cost of living adjustments every year. A good portion of them are millionaires, how can they address the problems of the majority with no concept of what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck?
In the upcoming election, vote them ALL out. We need term limits, no more career politicians, and voters should be able to vote on who gets a lifetime pension based on job performance at term end.
Dec 27th 2009 1:09PM I am recently unemployed. I draw $290 a week unemployment. COBRA for me and my family is $1,025 per month. If I opt for the ins, that leaves me $135 per month for everything else. Guess we go without. Merry Christmas.
