China's Empty Cities: These Satellite Images Will Shock You

Mar 6th 2013 10:38AM The problem of China's aggressive building program is that most Chinese cannot afford the new housing apartments. The solution should be obvious, either pay mainstream workers much more in wages and benefits or drastically reduce housing cost. China has produced a wealthy middle class through entrepreneurial initiatives and personal ownership. They purchased much of this new property, many now owning multiple properties that average workers cannot afford. These properties now stand abandoned, creating a great financial lost to investors. China has produced a utopia with no incentive to potential for multinational corporations to invest in

98-Year-Old's Birthday Surprise: Eviction Notice From Her Son

Feb 18th 2012 12:00AM Peter is a d***head. Even if he claims to want his mum in a nursing home by forcing her out of her home, he's still wrong

Tracy Morgan in Foreclosure Fracas Over Mom's Mortgage

Feb 1st 2012 2:34AM We will never know what kind of relationship Morgan had with his mother. There may be some really bad feeling between them. Even though most of us would have not only paid her mortgage arrears, but paid off the home completely. But that's us

Sexy New 'iPod of Thermostats' Is Geeky on the Inside

Dec 28th 2011 11:54PM This is just another hyped item attempting to appeal to the must-have crowd. There is nothing ugly about the many programmable stats on the market, in a variety of styles and functions at much less cost. People claiming they are too complicated probably don't read the instructions on operating procedures. I don't see anything on the new stat worth spending $250+labor/installation -- to change over to, besides it looks more like a room number than a stat

Most Controversial HOA Moves of the Year

Dec 25th 2011 5:03AM HOAs may serve a need to maintain certain standards for their assigned properties but many serve no other purpose than as an instrument of harrassment. When I moved into sub-division here in Jacksonville,Fl., years ago, I told the realtor wanted to have my home built where I could have a room air-conditioner in the master bed room window. She took me to my present location, which I settled for. The realtor told me she was sure there would no problem with an A/C in the window. However, as soon as I moved in my new home (with A/C installed in window) I got a violation notice from the HOA. Even after telling them the realtor told me it was OK, they claimed it was not. Because of my bronchial condition, I need to have my room nearly chilled in order to sleep. It would have been very expensive and un-necessary to cool the whole house to that desired temperature, when only one room would do. To make a long story short, the HOA finally relented after I threatened to take them and the realtor to court

Why Do Cats Stare?

Dec 18th 2011 7:20AM When a cat (or dog) stares at you in the eye intently, it is trying to tell you something. If you are very attentive to their habits and inclinations, you should know any difference in behavior will need looking into. Their staring is a silent appeal for you to do so

7 Things That Drive Vets Crazy

Dec 18th 2011 7:08AM As with doctors, I view vets with suspicion. These care givers are in business to make money -- their love of animals, notwithstanding. Both are not in business to offer cures, will have you coming back for mostly un-necessary test, symptom treatments and prescriptions. Symptom relief is a far more lucrative niche than cures. I am a lone senior citizen on an only meager monthly SS check which is barely enough to live on. I don't have medical ins., neither do my two cats -- my solution -- don't get sick. I have owned several pairs of cats all of which stay indoors and never see a vet. The last two before the ones I have now lived 16 and 21 years, both very healthy. The younger succumbed to complications from having one kidney at birth, the older had cancer the last year and had to be put down. I was advised by a breeder to feed cats good quality dry food, low in magnesium and potash to prevent urinary tract disease. The animal's immune systems will take care of the rest

Angola named Miss Universe 2011 - show recap (PHOTOS & VIDEOS)

Sep 16th 2011 1:41AM Its nice to see such a beautiful young Black woman win the Miss Universe pagent. In this un-mentioned trend of anti-colour prejudice, it seems bigotry is again raising its hideous head. Instead of celibrating racial diversity, people are regressing to a time when simply the colour of skin judged human worth.
People no longer think for themselves but prefer to be told what to think

Renaming Your Rescue Dog

Sep 4th 2011 12:42AM I had two cats and a dog, awhile back. The oldest, a tom, I called Kat. The younger tom, Katu. To the outsider, I was simply calling them, Cat I and Cat II. This got me some raised eyebrows at the vet when asked their names. This was exacerbated when I told them my dog's name was Rat. I named her that when she was a puppy that looked look a little rat. All were perfectly happy with whatever I addressed them as and lived happily beyond nomal life spans, in good health
