Making your own eco-Christmas cards

If you're like many of us, you're into creating your own holiday greeting cards from scratch. Forget those trendy Hallmark cards -- there is nothing like personalizing the look and feel of your very own card to send to friends and relatives. You pick the colors, the typeface and exactly what is said. Sound easy? It is.

But, instead of using standard paper and that inkjet or color laser printer, why not use materials that are both environmentally sustainable to the planet while still containing your own and unique holiday presence and spirit? Think this: warm water and dried flowers. Confused? Read on.

If you have a shredder, get some of those shredded paper shards and soak in warm water for a few hours. Then, mix the concoction in a blender with some dried flowers, grass and even fall leaves for some color.

The rest of this 'tasty' recipe revolves around flattening out that new 'paper' and conditioning it with corn starch for rigidity. This is a really near project and it's one I will try this year. That is, if I can find my blender.
