I know, paper cups are bad, and I am bad if I use them. What if I reuse them? Can I redeem myself just a little?

If you've got paper cups kicking around, there are all sorts of ways that they can be re-purposed into cool Kiddie Crafts. Just this afternoon, I went to the pantry for some dried pasta and realized that there was only a very little bit left. I also came across some leftover party cups that I'd stashed away. What do you do with pasta and paper cups? Make maracas of course!

After the break I'll tell you how, share another paper cup craft that we tried, and point you to a few more that I think pass the kiddie craft test (simple, inexpensive, fun, and easily modified for different ages).

I am in desperate need of a kitchen apron. I have been cooking since I was 8 years old, and I have always absentmindedly wiped my hands on my clothing, even though there is always a dish towel nearby. Yup, I need an apron.

DIY Maven on Curbly has written a fabulous tutorial, complete with awesome pictures, teaching us how to turn large cloth napkins into a kitchen apron using a sewing machine. You'll need several yards of ribbon for tie strings and for the apron collar, and of course, some basic sewing skills.

This apron is perfect, not just for the kitchen, but also for gardening. The pockets in the apron could hold your kitchen gadgets, or your gardening tools. Of course, I always absentmindedly wipe my dirty hands on my clothes when I am gardening too.

Check your local thrift stores for some awesome napkins. Mine always seem to have the prettiest sets of fabric napkins on hand, and for the price they sell at (6 for $1.00), there are plenty available to make as gifts for my gardening and cooking friends.

We've just moved into a new house, and my boys are excitedly adding personal touches to their room to make it their very own. These personalized door hangers are a perfect way for them to express their own taste and take ownership of their new room.

In this project, your child will decorate cutouts of their own initials and hang them on their bedroom door. For their decorations, they'll be reusing cardboard, greeting cards, magazines, and other treasures they find around the house.

You're so close to walking down the aisle... only a few finishing touches on your DIY wedding, and you'll be ready for the big day. You've made your invitations, your bouquet, and your centerpieces, but have you thought about your favors yet?

Back when I got married, in an attempt to keep my wedding super-simple, we bought personalized votive candles and stuck them on the tables. Pretty much done, but looking back, I could have done something nearly as easy that:

• showed our personality more as a couple
• had a creative touch
• fit the theme of our wedding
• really said "thank you" to our guests.

If I could do it all over again, I'd choose one of these three favors.

Even if a piece of furniture was just made yesterday, it can be made to look vintage. I love shabby-chic, and thrift stores are fabulous places to find items that give a shabby-chic look to things like scrapbook albums.

One of my favorite crafts is scrapbooking. I like to take paper or cardstock, add embellishments, stickers, and buttons, and make my own Shabby Chic scrapbook album. CraftBits has a great description, complete with detailed pictures, telling us exactly how to make the album.

You can find the chipboard, as well as the crackle paint and other supplies, at your local craft or scrapbook supply store. If you don't happen to have all your necessary supplies on hand, then you can purchase an album at Michaels and just go to CraftBits to see the tutorial on how to paint and embellish the album.

Now you know what to do with all those extra embellishments and that last bit of pink paint. This would also be a great time to untangle your ribbon, so that your next craft project can be this awesome ribbon dispenser box.

If you have a pacifier baby, then you know the panic of a lost binky. The soother clip has been a big rescue in our house. There is nothing interesting or attractive about it, but it works, so I'm a big fan. I hadn't considered making my own, but this tutorial shows how easy it can be.

The cool thing about doing it yourself is that you get ultimate authority over the style. This means no more tacky nylon straps and weak velcro. You could even make a few to match different little outfits. Once you've found the perfect ribbon, you'll also need Dritz Stay-Tape, velcro, hot glue, thread, and the pacifier clip. Follow the simple instructions, and you'll have a one-of-a-kind soother clip. I plan to make a few for myself and keep some on hand for baby shower gifts.

A secure clip lets you decide when it's time to give up the beloved soother (except of course if you opt for the cactus pacifier habit-breaking method).

Are you heading off to college in the fall? The dorms are a great place to live. It's been a few years since I was there, but I'm still in touch with many of my college friends. I'll never forget the late-night Euchre games, parties, reluctant study sessions, and (unfortunately) the complete lack of space.

Even though dorm rooms are usually off-white, bland spaces roughly the size of a shoe box, you can still make them your own. In addition to posters, photographs, and other wall art, decorate your room with items that do double-duty by looking great and serving a purpose.

Storage and other multi-use items are important for your dorm room. You're not limited to milk crates "borrowed" from a local restaurant (not that I know anyone who did that... ahem). I'll share some fun, decorative, and useful dorm room ideas after the break.

Making handmade soap is an art form in itself. You can create swirls, layers, confetti, and textures in your cold process soap. It makes sense that you'd want to wrap your soap in a beautiful way too.

Your first instinct might be to use cellophane or another clear wrapper so you can see the gorgeous details of your soap, but if you make cold process soap from scratch, you will want to choose a more breathable wrapping.
The cold process soap likely retains some moisture from the curing process, which, unless you have been drying your soap for a year or so, is still not complete. Also, due to the high amount of naturally occurring glycerin in cold process soap, moisture is naturally attracted to it and you'll possibly end up with a soggy, moldy bar of soap if you use plastic.

Weddings are so fun, but for the bride and groom, getting prepared for their special day can be a hassle. It is quite a feat to pull off a wedding without a hitch.

These handy storage containers are an interesting twist on the pencil case, making them a great place to store craft or school supplies. My youngest son suggested that it would also be good for collecting rocks. Really, it's a convenient carrying case for storage or collecting of any kind (and not just kids' stuff either!). While the little ones are making collection containers and pencil cases, you can be designing your own for use as a gift box.

Every time I wrap a gift and grab the ribbon, I first have to untangle the jumbled mess that the ribbon has become. I always put the ribbon back in the box thinking that I will take care of the mess later, but I always end up forgetting about it until the next time I go to wrap a present.

Thanks to an instructable by donovanbeeson, we can all have success the next time we go to wrap a present. We won't have to worry about jumbled ribbon anymore. Donovanbeeson shows us step by step how to create a hinged top ribbon box that is designed to neatly dispense spool ribbon.

Crafters should already have all the materials on hand and be able to whip up this awesome box in short order. The ribbon dispenser box makes a great gift for those who love to craft, and can be used for other dispensable items too.

Could it be that the DIY'er/gardener you love so much might prefer something handy and practical this Valentine's Day? Afraid he/she'll be mad because you chose functionality over sentimentality? Never fear! Your gift can be practical and romantic. You see, the secret is all in the presentation.

Consider putting together a gift basket of DIY-type goodies, all wrapped up in colorful paper or cellophane, and topped with a red ribbon. The basket should contain some sort of mouth-watering Valentine's-themed candy, just for the sake of tradition. As for the rest of the contents, let your sweetheart's interests be your guide. For a gardener, how about seeds, a new pair of secateurs (pruning scissors), or new gardening gloves? For a handyman/woman, how about a hardware store gift card, a screwdriver or a new tool belt?

Selected your gifts? Now comes the fun part: making it look all nice and pretty. The gift basket is always a great choice.
