Now that you are wrapping your sandwiches in an eco-friendly vinyl wrap, you can go a step further and carry those wrapped sandwiches in a neat woodgrain oilcloth lunch bag, courtesy of Derek and Lauren over at Design*Sponge.

To make the lunch bag, you'll need 1/2 yard woodgrain oilcloth, scissors, a sewing machine, thread, a ruler, and Velcro sticky dots. Derek and Lauren cut the pine woodgrain into three pieces, then sewed the pieces together. After turning the bag right side out, they attached the Velcro sticky dots, and the job was complete.

While many of the commenters like the oilcloth bag, a few think that the lunch bag really isn't eco-friendly at all. I think the bag is awful cute, and would argue the fact that if you use the bag every day, then it really is environmentally friendly, simply because you aren't using and tossing a paper bag every day.

Awesome craft idea spotted in the latest issue of Wondertime: DIY necktie coffee sleeve. It's cute and stylish, yet easy for the kids to make... maybe with a little help from Mom.

Here's what you'll need:
1 stylin' necktie that dad doesn't want anymore...er, one that you're sure dad doesn't want anymore!
1 two-inch strip of 3/4-inch self-adhesive Velcro

Here's what you do:
Step 1. Cut the tie 15 inches from the wide, pointy end. Put the thin end aside.
Step 2. Peel backing from one side of the Velcro and stick it to the underside of the tie, one inch from the point.

Felt is so inexpensive, and fun to work with. Everyone needs accessories. I enjoy making wallets, coin purses, and the like. Finding a cheap project, that combines my love of felt and accessories was quite the win.

You won't need much to make this lovable felt monster coin purse. It really depends on whether you'd like to sew or glue your coin purse. You can glue it, but sewing it together will make it last longer. So, if you decide to sew it, you'll need a stash of colored felt, a sewing machine, scissors, thread, and velcro. You can omit the sewing machine if you're going to just use glue. You can either use wiggly eyes, or cut some out of some felt scraps.

Arrange and glue (or sew) your eyes, tongue, and teeth in a visually pleasing manner. You can add a nose if you like. Attach velcro. Sew or glue up the sides.

That is all there is to it. Now you've got yourself a sweet little monster coin purse. Rawr!

My hair is super straight and pretty boring. I recently bought some of those pink sponge rollers, the kind my mother used to put in my hair every night before bed. I had forgotten how incredibly uncomfortable they were. Not to mention the weird creases they left in my hair where the plastic closing piece connects.

In a search for more comfortable hair rollers, I stumbled upon this brilliant tutorial. It never occurred to me that I could just make my own.

They look really nice, and will give me the opportunity to use up some of my fabric scraps. And, they look really comfortable. No big plastic pieces!

You'll need fabric, buttons, stuffing, thread, hand sewing needle, scissors, and a sewing machine (with zipper foot if possible). If you are uncomfortable with creating button holes, you can always use Velcro. If you do use Velcro, it would probably be best and cheapest to purchase it by the yard since you'll need a lot more of the loop portion of the velcro.

I guarantee I'll have the most impressive and comfortable curlers on my block!

Being able to make your own accessories is a big perk to living the DIY lifestyle. There are tons of really cool wallets to make out there, some more difficult than others.

I found a neat tutorial on Craftster, and the tutorial author is definitely correct in the title, Easy Peasy Snap Wallets, as this is probably the easiest wallet I have ever made! I can't wait to make a ton more of these, for myself and gifts for my friends.

I have quite a few remnants of funky fabric and interfacing laying about, so that comes in handy for this project. You will only need two pieces of coordinating fabric that are about 9" x 6" or so. You can use whatever size fabric you want, but think ahead about what you would like to put inside the wallet, and that will give you an idea on how small or large you need your wallet to be.

Have you noticed that pet beds cost an arm and a leg? Like this one from LLBean or this one from Drs. Foster and Smith ($119-$199!). Or how about this one for $89.99 -- are you kidding me, Petsmart?! There are cheapies out there, but many of them are sewn into their covers and, hence, not machine washable. Ick.

As an experienced pet-mama, here are my requirements for a good pet bed: 1) inexpensive, 2) durable, 3) a color that hides grime, and 4) easy-to-remove, machine washable cover. If you have access to a sewing machine, consider a simple DIY pet bed like this one. Just use a cheapo bed pillow for stuffin' and use whatever fabric you like for the cover. Bonus: you can buy fabric that matches the rest of your decor.

What I love about these instructions is that the designer, Candace, keeps it super-simple and affordable. You're basically sewing a big open-ended pillow-case. No fussing to attach a zipper, velcro or button closure. For a bigger dog, you can use multiple pillows. However, in that situation you will have to have something to hold them all together in one unit. Here's what I do to make my own DIY beds for larger dogs: I use an inexpensive under-bed storage bag. Choose one like this, made of fabric that breathes, not a plastic one. Stuff the pillows into that, zip it closed, and stuff that bag inside your homemade cover. Voila! Your dog will be in hound heaven.

Every DIY guru has a secret weapon they couldn't do without: laser levels, zip ties, bungee cords -- you know the, uh, drill. What's the thing that always makes my list? Velcro.

Velcro is one of the handiest tricks around for home improvement and decorating projects. It's available at big retail stores, small craft stores, and even at some grocery stores. It's cheap, comes in several different colors, and is available in sheets, squares, strips, and dots of all sizes. Velcro is very strong, yet removes easily from most surfaces (test first in an inconspicuous area). To use, just cut it to the size you need, peel the paper backing off both sides, and stick in place.
