Who needs a Shipper’s letter of instructions (SLI)?
This form is filled out by exporters of goods and signed by the freight forwarder. It contains information on how to send the specified goods to the destination point.
What is the blank SLI form for?
The main purpose of this document is to give the instructions to the freight forwarder so that the goods are delivered in time and properly. The letter also lists all the enclosed documents, provides the number of lading waybill. This document acts as a written record of who received all the shipping documents and who contact for questions. When the freight forwarder receives the letter, the company starts to prepare the shipping documents.
What documents must accompany the SLI?
The exporter may enclose other shipping documents, depending on the type of shipment.
When is the SLI due?
This PDF Shipper’s letter of instruction form should be forwarded to the shipper when the goods are ready for shipment to the consignee.
What information should be provided in the Shipper’s Letter of Instruction Template?
The exporter will add the following information:
- Exporter’s name and address
- Exporter’s Internal Revenue Number
- Ultimate consignee
- Intermediate consignee
- Forwarding agent
- Date of export
- Number of Lading bill
- Shipper’s reference
- State of goods’ origin
- Country of final destination
- Number of loading pier
- Mode of transport
- Ports of export and unloading
- Sum of insurance (if there is any)
- What the shipper must check (choose the appropriate box)
- Detailed description of commodities (with a value of each unit)
- Number of validated license
- Export Control Classification Number
- Authorized officer or employee
- List of enclosed documents
- Special instructions to the shipper
The letter also must be signed and dated by the shipper.
What do I do with the SLI after its completion?
The completed and signed SLI is forwarded to the shipper.
