TD could use the banking failures in the US to acquire a regional bank for a discount. The regulators will likely look past it if TD is acquiring a failing bank, similar to JPMorgan acquiring First Republic Bank. Consolidation isn’t great, but TD expanding in the US actually leads to more profit being returned to Canada.
