The London, Midland and Scottish Railway Fowler Class 7F was a class of 0-8-0 steam locomotives.They were a Midlandised version of the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) Class G2 and Class G2A 0-8-0s.
The LMS numbered them 2425–94, and then 2537–672, BR adding 40000 to their numbers to make them 42425–94, and then 42537–672. The LMS classified them 4P, BR 4MT. They were the basis for the LMS Fairburn 2-6-4T .
One hundred and ninety five engines were built by the LMS, adding to the 45 Midland Railway 1000 Class, to which they were almost identical.The most obvious difference is that the driving wheel diameter was reduced from 7 ft 0 in (2.134 m) on the Midland locomotive to 6 ft 9 in (2.057 m) on the LMS version.
