They believe that the only way for Wikipedia to remain able to keep their current neutral status is to get donations from the public rather than payments from companies. It costs a lot of money to keep Wikipedia going, to pay for the computers running 24/7 and the staff that maintains them. That money has to come from somewhere.

Several Wikipedia users keep lists like this on their user pages, here are a few: wtf. Strange and Interesting. Mysteries. user:Temporaryachilles. user:The cat theif. Of course these are mostly very well known true crime mysteries and Forteana, with lots of overlap between the lists, but there may be some unusual items too.

Wikipedia is not an appropriate source to cite because it's not an authoritative source. All the information on Wikipedia is (supposed to be) taken from other sources, which are provided to you. If you cite Wikipedia, you're essentially saying "108.192.112.18 said that a history text said Charlemagne conquered the Vandals in 1892".

It appears English Wikipedia would not be 6 million pages. It is currently 6,694,000+ articles! And I like old school encyclopedias with short little entries- the average wikipedia article is 1,813 words- which is several pages each. So basically triple to quadruple the numbers above. Print Wikipedia was over 7,000 volumes back in 2015.

Wikipedia has an internal policy which states that articles must be written from a neutral point of view, which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all of the significant points of view that have been verifiably published by reliable sources on a topic.[3]

No restrictions are placed on reading Wikipedia through an open or anonymous proxy. Although Wikipedia encourages anyone in the world to contribute, open proxies are often used abusively. MediaWiki, the wiki software that powers Wikipedia, depends on IP addresses for administrator intervention against abuse, especially by anonymous users.

  8. Wikipedia is one of the most visited websites in the world. Potentially tens of millions of people now think that Scots is a horribly mangled rendering of English rather than being a language or dialect of its own, all because they were exposed to a mangled rendering of English being called Scots by this person and by this person alone.

TIL Daughter from California syndrome is a phrase used in the medical profession to describe a situation in which a disengaged relative challenges the care a dying elderly patient is being given, or insists that the medical team pursue aggressive measures to prolong the patient's life. www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3p45ed/eli5...

Wikipedia is not a source, just like how you aren't suppose to quote an encyclopedia. A very easy workaround is to use the sources that the Wikipedia article uses. If I was doing an article on Reddit, I wouldn't say "The name Reddit is a play on words "I read it on Reddit."" and quote the Wiki article on Reddit, I would use the source they used ...
