Punta Cana International Airport (IATA: PUJ, ICAO: MDPC) is a privately owned commercial airport in Punta Cana, eastern Dominican Republic. The airport was built with open-air terminals and roofs covered in palm fronds. Grupo Punta Cana built the airport, which was designed by architect Oscar Imbert, and inaugurated it in December 1983.
Terminal One and Two are actually the same building (with the latter being an extension of the former) and are defiantly both used for commercial flights, which is what the source may be referring to collectively as 'Punta Cana International Airport Commercial Terminal' - there is no reference at all to the name Terminal One or Two.
The airport is the second-busiest in the country, after Punta Cana International Airport, and one of the largest in the Caribbean, handling 3.5 million passengers in 2015. It is also the busiest cargo hub in the Caribbean and Central America, with 355,000,000 lbs of cargo transported in 2019.
As of August 2020, Luis MuƱoz MarĆn Airport has one main terminal building with four concourses and a separate terminal with one concourse. However, all terminals are connected. Over the years, the airport has switched between letter designations and number designations. In the late 2010s, the airport incorporated both letter and numbers.
The airport is located near the village of El Catey, some 8 km (5.0 mi) west of SƔnchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana. Local travel times are given as 30 minutes drive to Las Terrenas, 40 minutes drive to the provincial capital, Santa Barbara de SamanƔ , and approximately one hour drive to Las Galeras .
