Apr 13, 2008. Messages. 389. May 13, 2009. #1. I am going to book Allegiant Air to Orlando for the first time (Sanford, actually) but notice they charge $12-$15 each way per person for seat selection. If you do not purchase this option you are assigned seats at check-in/podium before boarding. My question to those who have used this airline: Is ...
Messages. 201. Jun 15, 2017. #1. Well, I posted this in the October thread since that is when I could be going (pending heat & health), but Allegiant Airlines now has a military discount called the Honors Program. Valid ID for retired, active, spouse, etc. needs to be verified in person at the airport. Discounts include three free checked bags ...
Below are what I feel to be the Pros and Cons of each flight. Jet Blue. Pros: Daily Flights. Cons: Airport is 2 hours one-way drive. Week Long Parking Fees. Allegiant: Pros: Airport 20 minutes from home. No Parking Fees. Cons: Only have flights on Wednesday and Saturdays.
Actually, with discount airlines like Frontier, Allegiant, and Spirit, they do tend too drop prices significantly much closer to the date of the flight but which flight day/time and when they do it can be unreliable. We have booked the cheapest rates ($50 RT from NJ/PA to Orlando) as little as 1-2 weeks out.
Allegiant and Spirit appear to be 21st Century copies of PEOPLExpress from the 1980's: fly some oddball routes, offer low base fares but pile on a cacophony of a-la carte charges. Of course the end result is that often times the fare you pay ends up being the same or close to the same as had you flown one of the majors.
Allegiant specializes in flying non-stop to specific destinations from smaller cities. This provides you the chance to better allot your travel time to the airport meaning a possible 2 hour ride to the major airport is repleaced by a 15 minute ride to the smaller airport. Allegiant flies modern jets flown by American, Delta and many other airlines.
Where airlines like Allegiant/Spirit/Frontier struggle is if the flight gets cancelled. They don't have multiple flights a day to places...so if your Friday night flight gets cancelled...the next flight with available seats might be several days out....which for a 3 day weekend basically means the trip is cancelled.

It varies by airport but goes something like this: pay at time of booking $20-30/bag, pay pre-departure, but not at time of booking $45/bag, pay at gate $50/bag. Allegiant also charges for carry-on bags, again depends on airport and when you pay, at time of booking $15-20/carry-on, pre-departure $45/bag, at gate $50/bag.

With other airline's websites, the fees are clearer at an earlier stage in the booking process. However, I think the rule is now that you have 24 hours to cancel with no penalty for every airline. K.
