Louis Hennepin, OFM (born Antoine Hennepin; French pronunciation: [lwi ɛnpɛ̃]; 12 May 1626 – 5 December 1704) was a Belgian Catholic priest and missionary best known for his activities in North America.
The college was founded in 1966 as North Hennepin State Junior College, opening concurrently with two other state junior colleges in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Minnesota Metropolitan State College (now Metropolitan State University, a public, comprehensive university).
