If you are retired, you and your wife can use S-3B passes only,after the $50 charge, no other charges (except the international charges, like every other pass rider). If you are a "friend" of a Delta employee, you use and pay for a S-4 pass, that is a buddy pass, and your friend must have paid the $50 charge.

If having a retiree or disabled pilot compete with you in like boarding priority bothers you, consider yourself in that position. And think about the dilution of benefits rendered by Delta's decision to elevate non-Delta people to S3a. S3b is useless.
