Jamaica Observer is a daily newspaper published in Kingston, Jamaica. The publication was owned by Butch Stewart (now deceased), who chartered the paper in January 1993 as a competitor to Jamaica's oldest daily paper, The Gleaner. Stewart also founded The Jamaica Observer newspaper in January 1993 [12] and, in 1994, started the Air Jamaica Acquisition Group to buy a majority stake in Air Jamaica. [13] The group paid $37.5 million for a majority share of the airline; of which, Stewart held a 46 percent stake [14] and became the new chairman of Air Jamaica. [15]
