The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), formerly known as the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), is the State of Georgia Government Agency which supervises the U.S. state of Georgia 's 22 technical colleges, while also surveying the adult literacy program and economic and workforce development programs.
There are 7 Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) in Georgia. Savannah State University, Fort Valley State University and Albany State University are three public HBCUs housed within the University System of Georgia. The other four schools are private schools.

The first Master of Arts curriculum was put in place in 1868 during the administration of Chancellor Andrew A. Lipscomb, and the first graduate degrees were awarded in 1870 to Washington Dessau, future chancellor Walter Barnard Hill, and Burgess Smith. [5]
