McLean County, Illinois. / 40.49°N 88.85°W / 40.49; -88.85. McLean County is the largest county by land area in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 Census, it had a population of 170,954. [1] Its county seat is Bloomington. [2] McLean County is included in the Bloomington–Normal, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area .
The McLean County Courthouse housed the McLean County Circuit Court from 1903 to 1976. The original construction was completed in 1868 at a cost of $461,640. [2] On June 19, 1900, a fire destroyed many of the buildings in the square and the courthouse. The courthouse was rebuilt in 1903 in a similar style following the fire.
Circuits. There are 25 judicial circuits in the state, each comprising one or more of Illinois' 102 counties.
