The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), formerly known as the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), is the State of Georgia Government Agency which supervises the U.S. state of Georgia 's 22 technical colleges, while also surveying the adult literacy program and economic and workforce development programs.
The following is a list of colleges and universities in the U.S. state of Georgia. Many of these schools have multiple campuses. In such cases, only the location of the main campus in Georgia is specified. Most public institutions and traditional private institutions in Georgia are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Founded in 1785, the University of Georgia awarded its first graduate degree, a Master of Arts, nearly a century later in 1870. The first Master of Arts curriculum was put in place in 1868 during the administration of Chancellor Andrew A. Lipscomb, and the first graduate degrees were awarded in 1870 to Washington Dessau, future chancellor Walter Barnard Hill, and Burgess Smith. [5]
