As of the census [3] of 2000, there were 1,059 people, 438 households, and 328 families residing in the township. The population density was 30.1 inhabitants per square mile (11.6/km 2).
The county was created by the Michigan Legislature from part of Michilimackinac County in 1840, named Kaykakee County [5] after a Sauk Indian Chief.
