The campus is located between the historic River Park and Sunnymede neighborhoods in South Bend, Indiana. The neighborhood is on the east side of town, and Adams is referred to as "The Pride of the East Side". The school sits on around 20 acres (81,000 m 2) across from Indiana University South Bend.
The campus was named "Indiana University South Bend" in 1968. The first master's degrees were conferred in 1970. Enrollment exceeded 5,000 in 1971, and the addition to Northside Hall was opened in 1972. The purchase of the Associates Building (now known as the Administration Building) was completed in 1975.
