General discussion and questions about the fourth generation Toyota Tacoma. Threads 18 Messages 667 ...
Tacoma had about 1 1/2 to 2 inches more space from the back of the cab to the middle door post. A bigger truck would have been overkill for my needs, and I don't need an SUV. Based on the reviews I've seen so far, the 2024 Tacoma is about 1 or 2 inches shorter in that space than the 3rd Gen Tacoma.
Picked up my 2019 SR5 DCLB 4x4 with 20k km (~12k mi) for $34,700 CDN. Same truck now is $41-42K CDN at most dealers.....not that I would still buy in current market prices. Much as I love the truck I wouldnt have paid anymore than I did for it. The Tacoma is a nice truck but was already a bit overpriced..... now they are seriously overpriced!
Tacoma and the tundra are both good trucks .. both will be reliable for a long time .. I just sold my 2021 trd off road and bought a tundra.. so far I love the drive .. power and handling of the truck .. but I also liked the Tacoma’s as well .. just wanted more room in the cab and power .
Toyota has done better than a lot of the other auto manufacturers managing supply chain, but delivery delays on new vehicles are still very much a thing. If you’re not in a rush, I’d buy new. (Unless you particularly want a gen 3, which is what I have, I wouldn’t blame you…)
Toyota knows the Tacoma's brand value is built on reliability. They're not going to toss an untested powerplant in there on a whim. I do agree that hybrid turbo engines are on the whole more complicated and prone to failure than NA engines, but this is the way the world is going right now.

Other than cosmetic changes it basically remained unchanged. Toyota had a good thing and just kept it going. Same could be said for the previous generation Tundra. The thing is you really can’t go wrong with any of the generations, there’s a reason Toyota has a solid reputation for long lasting cars and trucks that maintain their value.
